Fremlins not so disabled friendy?
I was disappointed to find today, that although there are disabled parking bays in the car park under The House of Fraser, there is not a concession as there is at The Glades shopping centre in Bromley.
I also notice that walking from Week Street down the Fremlin Walk to the House of Fraser that there is not any seating provided for the elderly or for people with walking difficulties.

Maidstone's future Shopping experience - comment editor@visitmaidstone.co.uk

I welcome the eventual Fremlins retail development. When it gets built I hope that the council will have the resources and imagination to do something a bit daring.
To integrate the new centre into the existing town by putting a glass roof over Week Street from High street end to the new Earl street entrance.
By doing this, it would knit together the two retail centres, along with the surrounding roads giving the smaller businesses a fair chance along with the multinationals and ensure that the area would prosper as opposed to becoming a vacuum in the shadow of two shopping centres.

Even in bad weather, you could walk from one centre through to the other centre visiting multi national stores and small entrepreneurial shops, which would not be able to afford the high rents.
This would offer the consumer a wider range of choice and make the shopping experience that the county town of Kent would be proud of.            - - - -  well just a thought!

Payne Street  -   Charing . . .

. . that is where my parents lived for a while during and after my birth in December 1944, but can someone tell me
Is it a village or just a street in Charing? thanks

I am trying to trace my fathers heritage and any relatives living in MAIDSTONE Kent.

His name is Sidney Harry Galpin born February 2, 1920 in Maidstone.  His fathers name was Sidney Hedley Galpin and mothers maiden name was Florence Langridge,  My father had a younger brother named Douglas and a younger sister named  Alice.  I believe my grandfather has 13 bothers and sisters (some were half brothers and sisters).  My grandparents were heavily involved in the Salvation Army Corps.
If anybody can help in tracing my fathers heritage, I would appreciate any assistance.
